Ana Teresa Caldeira is an Associate Professor with Habilitation in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University
of Évora, where she has been teaching and researching since 1992. She holds a Habilitation in Biochemistry, a PhD in Chemistry
with a specialization in Biochemistry/Biotechnology, and a Master’s in Analytical Chemistry applied to Biochemical and Biotechnological
Processes.
Her research focuses on Analytical Biochemistry and Microbial Physiology, particularly in the application of Biochemistry
and Biotechnology to cultural and natural heritage. She has played a leading role in connecting biochemistry with heritage
science, founding and coordinating the Biotechnology and Biodegradation Unit (2BU) at the HERCULES Laboratory, where she also
leads Research Line 4 – Novel Materials and Tools for Cultural Heritage.
Between 2022 and 2025, she served as Deputy Director of the HERCULES Lab. She has also been Vice-Director of the Institute
for Advanced Studies and Research (IIFA) and currently is Director of the PhD Program in Biochemistry and the BSc Program
in Biotechnology. She is also President of the IIFA Pedagogical Council.
Has authored over 130 SCOPUS-indexed publications (h-index 22), 10 patents and delivered more than 250 presentations at scientific
meetings. She has supervised 15 PhD students (10 completed), 20 MSc students, over 100 undergraduates, and 8 postdoctoral
researchers.
Her work bridges research, teaching and science communication, promoting innovation and sustainability in the conservation
and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage.
