Nuno Silva completed his BSc in Applied Biology (2007) and received is PhD in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells from the University of Minho in 2012. His PhD work consisted on the development of novel approaches for Spinal Cord Injury Repair based on biodegradable materials and stem cells. His PhD was carried out in the 3Bs Research Group and in the Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research of the University of Toronto. In 2012 he started a post-doc at ICVS dedicated to study the best therapeutic combination to treat the injured spinal cord. In 2014 he was able to capture national competitive funding and started his own lab. In 2019 his position as Principal Investigator was reinforced through a FCT CEEC grant (Assistant Researcher). Recently, Nuno Silva achieved the top ranking in the CEEC 2023 call, the most competitive scientific employment call in Portugal. His team is presently constituted by 1 post-doctoral researcher, 5 PhD students, 2 MSc students and 3 technicians. He is currently an author of 48 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and is an author of two patents. Nuno Silva has currently more than 2900 citations and an h-index of 24. Additionally he is author of 7 book chapters and has more than 60 communications in national and international conferences. He supervises/supervised 25 post-graduation students. Parallel to his research activity his has been acting as referee for several international journals and for 4 international scientific agencies. He is the guest editor of 2 special issues for Pharmaceuticals and is in the editorial board of four international journals. He was part of the scientific and organizing committees of the Spinal Cord Iberian Symposium (SCiS 2015) and was the meeting chair of the first Minho Spinal Cord Injury Meeting (MiSCI-2019). Finally, during his research career, Nuno Silva was able to capture more than two and a half million euros of competitive funding, either in research projects (1.8M) or salary grants (716K). Notably, his international recognition includes funding from prestigious entities such as the Wings For Life Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation.
