Maria Inês Sousa obtained her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Biochemistry, at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra, Portugal. She joined CIBB (Centro de Inovação em Biomedicina e Biotecnologia)'s Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cells Group in 2011, where she completed her Master's thesis on male infertility and her PhD thesis in stem cell metabolism, entitled "Metabolic modulation in paused-like pluripotency". During the course of her PhD she also attended the highly competitive international advanced research training course "Frontiers in Stem Cells and Regeneration" at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, MA, USA. After the conclusion of her PhD she was hired as a PhD researcher on the project "STEM@REST.: The Paused State: a novel way for bioengineering Stem Cell fate" (CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-028871) for 1 year. Additionally, she continued furthering her education by attending the V Modular Laboratory Animal Course, hosted by CIBB. In the last two years, she has been involved in some teaching activities, not only mentoring some master and PhD students but also by being an invited assistant professor at the University of Coimbra, where she is teaching cellular and molecular biology-related disciplines (namely Introduction to Biology, Biochemistry Laboratory Introduction and Laboratories of Enzymology and Chemistry of Proteins, among others). She also taught part of the laboratory practical classes of the Biology of Reproduction discipline of the Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and in Biochemistry, at the University of Coimbra. She has published 22 peer-reviewed research articles in international journals, 11 in Q1 journals (SRJ Ranking), being the first author in 5 original research articles, 2 review articles and 2 protocol book chapters. She has presented her work in 12 poster communications at national and international meetings. She has an h-index of 12 and a total of 349 citations (google scholar). Additionally, she was involved in some outreach activities, such as the European researcher¿s night and more recently the UniStem Day 2020 event. Furthermore, she was also a member of the Local Organizing Committee of the 20th European Testis Workshop in 2018; Óbidos, Portugal.
