Gabriel Nascimento Ferreira da Costa graduated in Biology from the University of Coimbra in 2006 and completed a PhD degree in Biology from the same University in 2012. During his PhD he studied neuronal cell death mechanisms and inflammation at the origin of Diabetic Retinopathy. After concluding his PhD he dedicated his postdoctoral scientific career to the study of Neurosciences, particularly in vision and cognition. From 2013 to 2018 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of for Biomedical Imaging and Life Sciences (IBILI) and Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health (ICNAS), University of Coimbra, under suppervision of Professor Miguel Castelo-Branco. During this time he has collaborated with international researchers, including a stay at the Brain Imaging Centre (BIC), Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany under supervision of Prof. Michael Wibral. In 2019 Gabriel was granted a position as a junior Researcher at ICNAS, developing work on human neurophysiology, including EEG, MEG and ECoG, as well as in visual neuroscience and cognition. His main interests are visual perception, particularly the study of mechanisms used by the brain to solve ambiguity in the visual world. He has studied non-invasive electrophysiology in humans and explored connectivity measures to asses communication between distant brain areas. Gabriel Costa is co-author of 14 original publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He has an h-index of 6 and his works have been citated 219 (Web of Sciences; h-factor = 6 and over 293 citations in Google Scholar). He has also contributed as a reviewer for Scientific Reports (Nature Publishing group) and Health and Technology (Springer). During his time as a postgraduate researcher he has supervised 1 master's thesis and 1 undergraduate student project, co-supervised 1 master student and mentored several trainee and master student's laboratory rotations. He has also lectured and taught pratical classes for the Neuronal Circuits and Behavior course of the Master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology, at the University of Coimbra.
