Zhen Sun received his PhD in civil engineering at Yokohama National University in March 2020, Japan. He completed his bachelor's degree at Shandong University in 2005 and master's degree at Tongji University, both in China. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Civil Engineering, FEUP, University of Porto. Before that, he worked for around 7 years in a research institute in Jiangsu, China. Zhen Sun published 26 articles in peer-review SCI journals with a Scopus H index of 13. He has six registered patents and participated in three standards/codes related to structural health monitoring. He was in charge of four research/consulting projects in the research institute, which covered the structural health monitoring and load-carrying capacity of girder and cable-supported bridges. His main research interests include (1) Structural dynamics, and structural health monitoring; (2) Damage detection and load-carrying capacity evaluation of girder bridges under vehicle loads; (3) Data-based condition assessment of cable-supported bridges. He participated in the field test and monitoring activities of several long-span bridges including Jiangyin Suspension Bridge, Sutong Cable-stayed Bridge, and the 25 de Abril Bridge. He served as a reviewer for more than 10 international journals. He serves as the guest editor in the journal Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier, Impact factor: 3.634) for a special issue "Failure mechanism and prevention of civil infrastructure under operational and extreme conditions" (VSI: FMP of CI under OEC). He is the Mini symposia session chair at the 13th International Conference on Structural Safety and Reliability (ICOSAR2021-2022), MS 65 “Dual-Driven Probabilistic Damage and Failure Assessment of Engineering Structures under Hazards”. He is now the supervisor of a Ph.D. student (ongoing) in FEUP.
