My academic background and research interests lie in experimental and cognitive psychology, with a particular focus on working memory. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Coimbra (Portugal) and I am the recipient of a doctoral scholarship funded by This project is funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2021.04646.BD). My doctoral project examines how the lack of standardization in task selection contributed to inconsistent findings in working memory research — from investigations that examined individual differences in working memory capacity to those exploring the effect of time-of-day on working memory performance. To address this issue, I will investigate whether inconsistencies in prior investigations that examined the effect of time-of-day on working memory performance might be attributed to variability in task selection. Specifically, I will examine whether performance in tasks that target distinct WM components exhibits independent fluctuations across the day. Additionally, I will test the widely accepted but sparsely validated assumption that working memory capacity is best measured using a diverse battery of tasks drawn from multiple paradigms, rather than single-task or single-paradigm approaches. This project also seeks to develop empirically validated, time-effective solutions designed to increase the standardization and efficacy of WM assessment. To do so, I will develop and validate standard and abbreviated versions of a comprehensive and open-source battery of working memory tasks that cover multiple paradigms (complex span, updating, and binding tasks). I also aim to identify task combinations that optimize measurement precision while minimizing administration time. I also hold a Master’s degree in Clinical and Health Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Beira Interior (Portugal). My research experience includes work as a research assistant on the project “Do you recognize me? The impact of chronotype and time-of-day on face recognition” (PTDC/PSI-GER/31082/2017), which examined circadian influences on face recognition using behavioral and psychophysiological measures. From December 2019 to June 2020, I also provided research support services at the Department of Psychology and Education, University of Beira Interior.
