Fernando Pina is graduated in chemical engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico and got a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, chemical processes by the same institution under supervision of Prof. Romão Dias and Silvia Costa. He his full professor at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL), since 2004. Fernando Pina made a Post-Doc with Prof. Vincenzo Balzani, and was ¿Professore a contratto per il dottorato di ricerca in scienze chimiche" dell'Università di Firenze. 2nd semester 2000. Visiting Researcher, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA, working with Prof. T. Alan Hatton, 5 March-26 August 2007; Visiting Professor, Munster, Germany, 1-30, April 2008; Visiting Professor, Bordeaux, France, December 2010. He got the Gulbenkian Prize for Applied Sciences and Technology in 1998; Prize ¿Estímulo à Excelência¿, Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, 2004; Prize Ferreira da Silva, Portuguese Chemical Society, 2010, attribute each two years to the chemist who have made the most relevant contribution for the development of the Portuguese chemistry during the last 5 years; Honorary member of Portuguese Chemical Society. Fernando Pina was the first president of the conservation and restoration department of FCT-UNL (2010-2017) and was general secretary of the Portuguese Chemical Society (2004-2006). During his scientific career he had a variety of interests: photochemistry of organometallic compounds, photochemistry of coordination compounds, supramolecular chemistry, sensors based in polyamine compounds and models for optical memories. During the last years he have been focused in the chemistry and photochemistry of the multistate generated by flavylium cations. He was corresponding author of the first paper where the rationale of the photochemistry of the flavylium multistate was reported (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1994, 116, 1249-1254). Other most significant works: in the domain of the supramolecular chemistry he studied the "Photoinduced Electron and Energy Transfer Processes of Biacetyl Imprisioned in a Hemicarcerand", (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1996, 118, 11610-11616) and (J. Phys. Chem., 1995, 99, 12701-12703); systems to ¿write-lock-read-unlock-erase" based on the flavylium multistate (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1997, 119, 5556-5561); Artificial chemical systems capable of mimicking some elementary properties of neurons¿, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2000, 122, 4496-4498.; photochemistry of flavylium multistates (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2003, 125, 987-994). Other relevant work was the study of the properties of 4¿,7-dihydroxyflavylium in Water-Ionic Liquids Biphasic Systems: A Write-Read-Erase Molecular Switching System, (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2004, 43, 1525-1527). Fernando Pina supervised or co-supervised 13 Ph.D. thesis and had a strategy of do not having more than 2 Ph.D. students at the same time. He also supervised the post-doc of 5 researchers (2 Spanish, 1 French, 1 Bulgarian, 1 Portuguese). He got research projects above 2.5 millions euros Fernando Pina made 11 plenary Lectures 11 selected oral communications and 20 invited lectures in international conferences or meetings. He made 15 talks in National and International Universities and Institutes.
