João Aragonez is a recent graduate with a master’s degree and currently serves as an early-stage researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa. His work centers on Distributed Systems and Cyber-Security, with a particular emphasis on privacy and anonymity services. He earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico – Universidade de Lisboa. He completed his bachelor's degree in July 2022, graduating with a final score of 16/20 and receiving awards for academic merit and excellence. From the early stages of his undergraduate studies, João developed a keen interest in Cyber-Security, which led him to join the Cyber-Security team at Técnico (STT). He participated in several Capture the Flag (CTF) challenges, gaining valuable knowledge and experience in the field. Motivated by this interest, he pursued a master's degree with a specialization in Cyber-Security and Distributed Systems. To broaden his academic and cultural horizons, he took part in the Erasmus+ program at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands during the first semester of his final master’s year (September 2023). This experience helped him develop strong communication skills and expand his knowledge in areas such as artificial intelligence and real-time systems. In November 2024, João defended his master’s thesis titled “CorrForce: A Scalable Live Traffic Correlation System”, under the supervision of Prof. Nuno Santos. The thesis received a grade of 19/20 and contributed to his graduation with a final average of 17/20. João began his journey with INESC-ID in December 2022 as an intern under Prof. Nuno Santos, working on the SUMo project focused on deanonymizing Tor sessions through traffic correlation. He developed a web application to showcase the model, leading to a paper published at NDSS 2024. His master's thesis expanded on this by designing a scalable distributed system for traffic correlation. Now a researcher at INESC-ID, João leads a new project on real-time Tor Onion Service deanonymization, collaborating with Prof. Diogo Barradas from University of Wateloo, Canada and mentoring several master's students, aiming to produce a new research paper.
