Pedro Martins da Silva (PMS, male): PMS is an assistant researcher at the Department of Life Sciences – University of Coimbra (UC), and a junior researcher at Centre for Functional Ecology. Since 2008 he has been developing research on soil ecology and community ecology at the local/farm and landscape scales using soil invertebrates as ecological and diversity indicators of land-use changes and management intensification (e.g., FCT projects BIOASSESS and BioOlive). Recent projects on soil ecology have assessed epigeous and edaphic fauna from a functional perspective (trait-based approaches) as tools for sustainable management of soil biodiversity and soil services in agroforest ecosystems. Current interests include evaluating the relationship between invertebrate diversity and soil processes (decomposition, nutrient cycling, soil formation) associated to ecosystem services provision in agricultural and forest systems in the context of climate change (recent projects: H2020 ECOFINDERS, Biodiversa ECOSERVE). He is currently co-supervising two doctoral students and coordinating (PI) a research project linking soil fauna diversity patterns in key habitat types of the Gorongosa National Park (Mozambique) (FCT project ECOASSESS). He has published 29 papers in indexed journals (h index of 15).
