Fernanda Garcia is an ecologist specializing in ecology and conservation of mammals, particularly ungulates, their role in the ecosystem, and focusing on human-wildlife interactions. She completed her PhD in Ecology in 2023 at the University of Coimbra. Fernanda has expanded her research profile through active participation in scientific dissemination, international collaborations and large-scale projects, focusing on different topics from sexual segregation, population monitorization, diet, behaviour, activity patters, hormones expression and metals accumulation and focusing on several animal species including red deer, roe deer, wild boar, bats, Garrano horses, foxes and several carnivore species. Currently she is a researcher on the EuropeLAND project. Fernanda has (co)authored peer-reviewed papers, five as the first and corresponding author, all published in Q1 journals, including Integrative Zoology, European Journal of Wildlife Research and Global Ecology and Conservation. These works address key ecological topics, such as red deer activity patterns, their role in promoting biodiversity through native seed dispersal, and the complexity of sexual segregation in ungulates, with international collaborations. Her work has been recognized with several awards. Fernanda has also contributed to the academic community by mentoring several master’s and bachelor’s students, supporting their field and/or laboratory work and data analysis. In addition, she has participated in outreach activities, dynamized several workshops, and public engagements, highlighting her dedication to bridging scientific knowledge with society. She continues to build her profile as an ecologist dedicated to advancing mammalian ecology and promoting sustainable ecosystem management and human well-being.
