Conceição Egas is a researcher at Biocant, Transfer Technology Association, Cantanhede, Portugal, and at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. She has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1997, FCTUC). Conceição Egas professional experience includes a post-doc in the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra (1997-2000), and a teaching position at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (2000-2005), Viseu, Portugal, where she lectured Molecular Biology and Genetics. She has supervised 7 Ph.D. students (3 concluded, 4ongoing), and 22 Master students (4 ongoing). She has successfully participated in 26 R&DT national and european projects, comprising more than 19 million euros in competitive funding. She has published 23 book chapters and 67 papers in peer-reviewed journals. Conceição Egas has extensive expertise in genomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics. Current research interests include the study of microbes and microbiomes in environmental ecosystems, microbial-host interactions, and metagenome functional characterization focused on potential biotechnology applications. Conceição Egas has been the Head of Genoinseq, the next-generation sequencing (NGS) core facility of Biocant since 2007. This ISO 9001:2015 certified core facility provides NGS (genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics) and bioinformatics services for researchers and companies.
