Sérgio Miguel Rosa Domingos concluded an integrated masters degree in physics engineering (2008) at the University of Coimbra (Portugal). Funded by a PhD fellowship by FCT, in 2013 he obtained a doctors degree in physics at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands) under the supervision of Prof. Sander Woutersen and Prof. Wybren Jan Buma. Between 2014 and 2018 he did postdoctoral work in the group of Prof. Melanie Schnell, first as an Associate Researcher at the Centre for Ultrafast Imaging of the University of Hamburg and later as an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (Hamburg, Germany). Between 2018 and 2020 he held a position of Scientist at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY). In 2020 he secured an Assistant Researcher position at the Centre for Physics of the University of Coimbra (Portugal) through the individual call "Scientific Employment Stimulus" by FCT (4% success rate). He published 37 articles in international peer-review journals (>900 citations and 7 cover articles). In 2021 he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant for his project MiCRoARTiS, to develop new experimental methods to study artificial molecular motors in the gas phase. In 2022 he became Invited Coordinating Researcher at the University of Coimbra working on the kick start of a new Molecular Physics Laboratory at CFisUC. In November 2022 he received a Special Recognition (category of Science) for young research leaders by the World Cultural Council. Previously he won 2 communication prizes and secured 2 research fellowships, supervised bachelor, master and PhD students, and has been a collaborator in several international scientific projects with 60+ collaborators. His area of research is Molecular Physics, with particular focus on molecular structure, high-resolution spectroscopy, microwave rotational spectroscopy, chirality, density functional theory calculations, gas-phase clusters, molecular recognition, vibrational spectroscopy, circular dichroism, optical activity, structural flexibility, absolute configuration, stereodynamics and molecular nanotechnology.
