Dr. Christiane L. Salgado (female) is currently an Assistant researcher at INEB/i3S into Bioengineered 3D Microenvironment group. With a background of Dental Medicine (Brazil), a master degree in Sciences (Specialized in human physiology and pharmacology) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Materials and Process) at State University of Campinas (Brazil) in 2009. By using tissue engineering strategies , she aims at providing an in situ required biological signals to promote vascular and bone tissue regeneration at maxilofacial critical bone defects. The research on new biomaterials for application in dental medicine and orthopedics includes the development of new polymers for efficient cells spheroids or cell products delivery and preparation of bone grafts for large bone defects treatment, including neovascularization and neuronal repair strategies to inosculate the implant at the host tissue. Societal and ethical issues that concern Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering are also topics in which she is involved. She has also been engaged in technology transfer projects including the development of an industrial prototype in collaboration with the Portuguese company Arthur Salgado. Recently, she focuses on the study of dental MSCs as a tool to promote bone formation with collaboration of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Faculty of Dental Medicine). She collaborated with Prof. Herman Mansur (UFMG, Brazil) on the development of nanophotonics particles (Quantum dots) to track MSCs by bioimaging approach with in vivo real-time imaging analysis. To this date, she was successful in establishing national and international collaborations with outstanding researchers in their fields that resulted in high impact publications and 3 awards. She has published 26 articles in peer reviewed international journals and 1 book chapters with more than 557 citations (h index = 13). Has 2 patents registered. She was researcher into 5 concluded projects (3 national, 1 European and 1 U.S.A.) and PI of 2 national projects. She had supervised several master students in Biomedical Engineering and Dental Medicine; and a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering. She helped to organize 5 scientific events. She is also involved on educational activities, lab management, Greenlab initiatives and science dissemination strategies.
