Gabriel Paiva Fernandes completed the Bachelor in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1997 by Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Mestrado in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2002 by Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Doutoramento in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2010/12/06 by Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. He is a Senior Researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações and a Tenured Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. He was a Visiting Professor at EPFL in 2011/12 and again in 1017/18, and at ETHZ in 2018, both in Switzerland. He published 50 journal articles, 6 book chapters, and over 70 conference papers. He organized 3 events. Gabriel received 10 awards and honors. He was the recipient of a Google Faculty Research Award from Google Inc. in 2013/14 (together with João Barreto). He participates and participated as a member in 5 projects and as Principal Investigator in 2 projects. Gabriel is a Senior member of the IEEE and a full member of the HiPEAC network of excellence. Gabriel organized and was General Co-Chair of IEEE SiPS 2021 together with John Cavallaro from Rice University (US).
