Pedro MS Carvalho got his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computers from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, in 1999. He is an expert in the field of power systems planning and network optimization and is an entrepreneur in software development of decision support systems, having developed products with international acceptance by the industry of the field. He has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computers at IST since 1992, where he is currently a Full Professor. He is a researcher at the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores - Investigação e Desenvolvimento, where he has been responsible for research and consulting projects in international consortia in the field of advanced planning, operation and control of power systems. He is also a collaborator of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in the USA, where he has been an Adjunct Professor since 2015.
