Ana Santos-Pereira was born in Braga in 1991. She pursued her academic career at the University of Minho, where she completed a Bachelor's degree in Applied Biology and a Master's degree in Molecular Genetics. Her passion for research and science led her to earn a PhD in Ageing and Chronic Diseases, also from the University of Minho. Her doctoral research primarily focused on the evolution, genetic diversity, and drug resistance mutations of HIV-1, by using advanced bioinformatics tools. Ana’s academic qualifications are complemented by practical experience. She has held a position as Data Analyst at Social Data Lab, a role that allowed her to develop expertise in database management, ETL processes, and data visualization and analysis. During her postdoctoral fellowship at INSA, Lisbon, Ana developed a biomedical Knowledge Graph (KG) tool (ngest), which further enhanced her skills in Python programming, database processing and KG embeddings. In addition to her practical and academic achievements, Ana has made notable contributions to the scientific community through publications in various scientific journals. She has been invited to speak at numerous conferences, where she has effectively communicated complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences. Her leadership abilities are reflected in her experience teaching Python and supervising Master's students' projects. Ana continues to investigate the mechanisms of infection and evolution of HIV-1 and other pathogens using AI methods, aiming to positively impact society through her work.
