I received my PhD degree in mechanical engineering in October 2014 at the University of Coimbra with industrial support, with which I have acquired a large experience in the design of new materials and manufacturing processes for thin films. My work was recognized by the SVC Student Sponsorship Committee at the SVC 2014 conference. After finishing the PhD, I was POstDoc fellow at the University of Coimbra (UC) until 2017, investigating in Surface Engineering. In parallel, I integrated the activities of Instituto Pedro Nunes(IPN) where I developed more applied research in close collaboration with Industry. In both institutions, I participated in the preparation of several projects at various levels, from the simple writing of parts of the text up to the partial and/or total coordination of the proposals application. Among those approved, the following, where my intervention was fundamental, should be remarked: (i) IPN - ¿Effiworld Glass¿ and ¿PROCOATING¿ (task responsible) and at UC project ¿CONTROLLUB¿ (scientific coordinator). In 2017, I was awarded with a Post-Doc grant from FCT (1st in a list of 38 candidates) having as hosting institution the University of Minho, where the machinability of Ti alloys were improved through the development of novel PVD films. This work was recognized at PSE conferences with which I received the ¿PSE Early Career Award 2018¿, honoring the scientific achievements in short careers. Moreover, in the frame of this topic, as an academic output, a PhD student under my co-supervision submitted a thesis which will be defended next April. Among several international collaborations I could start during this period, one gave rise to a funded bi-lateral project with a research group from India. In the aim of this project, I am co-supervising another PhD student also working on the field of cutting of hard-to-.machine materials. In 2018, as PI of the FCT SMARTLUB project, I am dedicating an important part of my research to the development of TiSiAgN films for low friction applications. A Post-Doc researcher was contracted in the aim of this project investigating under my supervision. In 2019, under an application submission to the individual Marie Curie Program, I was awarded with a grant through the Czech Government (2019). From then, I integrated, in Czech Technical University at Prague, the AMG experimental and simulation group focusing my research on self-lubricant films and the simulation of diffusion processes. Following a successful application to PT2020 project call, in 2020, as Pi at UC of the MCTOOL21 project, the films solutions developed in the exploratory CONTROLLUB project are being implemented at the industrial promoter partner. I have also started a new co-supervision of a PhD students on the development of thin films sensors. In 2019 with 2 postdoc and 2 PhD students contract in the aim of his projects, he started a new research group, the “Thin films for high temperature applications group”, which included two research lines: the development of thin films deposited by High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HIPIMS) for mechanical applications (research Line 1) and development of self-lubricant films for high temperature applications (research Line 2). My academic activities started as invited professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of UC during my PhD, teaching Materials Science subjects. I kept this position, in a pro bonus basis up to December 2020. I have published 39 papers in international journals (28 in last 5 years), 2 in technical journals and participated in several conferences, 4/3 as invited /keynote speaker. Besides the 3 PhD students I am/have co-supervising/ed (one already finished), I have informally supervised 2 others, during their internships of 6 months in the SEG-CEMMPRE laboratory. I have supervised 8 Master students, 5 from the ERASMUS TRIBOS program, and has at the moment one more student doing MAster thesis.
