Fátima Patrícia da Silva Soares Gomes

Fátima Patrícia Gomes graduated in Biology and Geology at the University of Minho in 2009, performing post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (Master's Degree in Biology, 2011). The theme of the dissertation: "Processes of natural rehabilitation in waste-dumps from abandoned mines - case studies," awarded her a final score of 19. Between 2011 and 2016, she taught Biology and Geology to high school students while conducting research activities. Fátima Patrícia Gomes completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Geology in 2021 while creating a spin-off, PhytoClean, focused on sustainable and ecological water and soil remediation. Throughout her short career, she published more than 30 ISI/Scopus papers (Q1/Q2 journals), being the first author in the majority. Moreover, she has more than 40 publications in scientific meeting proceedings and 50 participations in national and international conferences, with oral and panel communications, and participated in 6 international projects. She has been part of the organization committee of several national conferences and carried out more than 30 science dissemination activities through interviews, speeches with students, or meetings held for society. She has won awards in different areas, namely in scientific photography and entrepreneurship. Additionally, she obtained approved projects/financings related to ecological water treatment and circular economy. Fátima Patrícia Gomes is now an integrated member of the Institute of Earth Sciences, where she is an Auxiliary Researcher. She has carried out teaching activities from her doctorate to the present in Pedology and Soil Conservation, Environmental Monitoring, and Geological Resources to Geology and Environmental Sciences degrees. Meanwhile, she supervised several students in their master's dissertations and initiation projects for scientific research while providing resources for their internships. Her research domains are mining contamination, acid mine drainage, environmental monitoring, mine waters, environmental geochemistry, and rehabilitation of contaminated areas. Most of their work is focused on innovative sustainability ideas, prioritizing the natural ecosystem, the problem of water scarcity, and ecological methods for its reuse in a circular economy environment. She is a member of the International Mine Water Association (IMWA) and a Guest Editor of the scientific journal Minerals.
