I hold a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Biotechnology Sciences obtained in 2013 by the University of Algarve. My PhD research has focused on the aluminum bioaccumulation capacity, and the low pH and aluminum toxicity effects and tolerance mechanisms in two Plantago species endemic from Portugal. After my PhD, I started to work at the Center of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) in the Biogeographical Ecology and Evolution (BEE) group, where I was involved in several research projects related to the study of how climate changes drive genetic diversity and dynamics of populations of macroalgae species, strengthening my knowledge on the biology, ecology, genetics and physiology of macroalgae. In 2017, I proceeded onto a Postdoctoral grant that aimed to understand how different life stages of kelps evolve across their biogeographic ranges in response to environmental variations. Currently, I am a Auxiliary researcher at CCMAR, carrying on my research interests on the ecophysiological mechanisms of kelp species and/or populations from different niche conditions in response to environmental variations. I am also coordinating the macroalgae biobank that aims to preserve marine biodiversity, focusing on ecologically and economically important Portuguese macroalgal species. I have been involved as team member in several national and international projects, some of the ongoing are PRR Portuguese Blue Biobank and Vertical algas, RESTORESEAS and iCULTURE. Additionally, I was involved in the publication of 28 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 13 of them as first author and 4 as last author. Additionally, my work was presented as poster and oral communications in more than 35 national and international congresses and also for the general public. I have been highly involved in training activities, supervising 10 Master thesis (+1 ongoing) and the internship of 16 students.
