Luis Pessoa is a Senior Researcher and Manager of the Optical and Electronic Technologies (OET) group at the Centre of Telecommunications and Multimedia from INESC TEC and invited assistant professor at the University of Porto in the field of Telecommunications and Microwave Engineering. He obtained the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Porto, in 2011. He is a senior member of IEEE, has authored/co-authored 70+ publications in international conferences and journals with peer-review (including 20 journal papers and 6 book chapters) and 5 patents, and has an h-index 16 & 750+ citations (google scholar). Under his supervision 2 PhD students have graduated successfully, and 4 are currently supervised. He has been involved in 8 FP7/H2020/H-Europe projects, 12 national projects and 10 service contracts. He is currently a member of the Steering Board of the 6G Smart Networks and Services (6G-SNS) initiative and the Project Coordinator of the Horizon Europe CONVERGE and TERRAMETA projects, started in 2023, focusing on high frequency radio reconfigurable intelligent surfaces and computer vision towards a novel paradigm of integrated communications, localisation and sensing in 6G. His main research interests include mm-wave/sub-THz electronic and opto-electronic devices, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, antenna array reconfigurability using 2D materials (e.g. graphene) and printed electronics, RIS-enabled localisation and sensing and digital beamforming algorithms.
