Pertovaara Antti. Completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical doctor (M.D.) 1978 and PhD 1982 in University of Helsinki. Postdoctoral training at University of Michigan, USA (1986-87), University of Heidelberg, Germany (1991-92) and Harvard Medical School, USA (2001-02). Main research interest is neurobiology of pain. Currently Professor of Physiology and Head of Department in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki. Published over 250 original articles in peer-reviewed journals, and h-index is 48 (Web of Science). Has over 10 section(s) of books. Supervised/Co-supervised 16 completed PhD theses. Currently in the editorial board of 4 journals (PAIN, European Journal of Pain, Scandinavian Journal of Pain, European Journal of Pharmacology). From the FCT point of view, it is noteworthy that Pertovaara laboratory in Helsinki has a long and successful collaboration with University of Minho in Braga, Portugal. Since 2004, five Portuguese doctoral students from the University of Minho have done (neurophysiological) part of their Ph.D. work in Helsinki at the laboratory of prof. Antti Pertovaara. These doctoral students who all have completed their PhDs at the University of Minho are Hugo Leite-Almeida, Filipa Pinto-Ribeiro, M Leonor Barbosa Goncalves, Diana Amorim, and Ana David-Pereira. Pertovaara was a co-supervisor for one of these PhD Theses (M Leonor B Goncalves), and member of the Thesis committee for all other PhD Theses. Moreover, this collaboration between Pertovaara lab and University of Minho has resulted in 17 joint original publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
