Sónia O. Pereira (SOP) is a researcher at i3N-Aveiro, Department of Physics at University of Aveiro. She holds a LSc (2009) and MSc (2011) in Biotechnology and completed the PhD in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology in July 2016 at Department of Chemistry, CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials at University of Aveiro, Portugal. SOP's research interests focus on the synthesis, (bio)functionalization, and characterization of nanomaterials for medical bioapplications. Specifically, her work includes the development of optical and electrochemical enzymatic and immunosensors, as well as bionanoprobes for medical bioimaging. She has extensive experience with Au nanoparticles (NPs), graphene-based nanomaterials, ZnO NPs, doped ternary and quaternary oxide materials, and, more recently, optical fibers. Within her multidisciplinary working group, she is responsible for biofunctionalization procedures. Currently, SOP is supervising and co-supervising 2 PhD candidates. She has supervised 12 completed MSc dissertations, with 3 more currently ongoing. Additionally, she has supervised and co-supervised 16 undergraduate students. SOP has been a member of 4 completed projects funded by FCT and 1 completed project funded by COMPETE and FEDER (Smart Green Home (SGH), a consortium between Bosch Thermotechnology and UA, with a total budget of ~€19M). She is currently involved in 1 ongoing project funded by FCT and, she is member and researcher of the OLIHealth project from the ILLIANCE Agenda, under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan. SOP has published 32 articles in indexed journals, 1 book chapter, and 6 conference papers. She is the author and co-author of works presented as posters (43) and oral communications (32) at national and international conferences, meetings, and workshops, having attended 32 of these events. SOP has been actively involved in organizing seven events, including the recent AOP2024, where she served as Technical Chair and a member of the Local Organizing Committee. She has received a distinction as Inside Cover in a scientific journal and is co-author of works awarded for best poster and best presentation at conferences. Additionally, SOP has contributed as a reviewer for several indexed journals and is currently serving as Guest Editor for a Special Issue of Biosensors from MDPI.
