I obtained the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (specialty of Telecommunications) under a FCT fellowship in the University of Coimbra in September of 2015, with praise and distinction. The dissertation thesis “Metamaterials for Light and Electron Waves: New Phenomena and Applications” was devoted to the analytical and numerical characterization of microstructured artificial materials (metamaterials), together with their remarkable applications. From January 2017 until January 2023, I was a postdoctoral researcher (FCT fellowship) and currently I am an Assistant Researcher at IT. During this period, my research work was mainly focused to the theoretical, numerical and experimental study of nonreciprocal and topological phenomena in photonic platforms. In total, I have published 18 articles in international refereed journals (mostly journals classified as Q1 in Scimago JR) and more than 30 articles in leading national and international conferences, as well as participated in 5 workshops. Among the journal articles, 4 were highlighted as “Editor’s Suggestion”, 2 were highlighted in the renowned scientific news outlet Phys.org, one was highlighted in the online magazine Physics and another in Advanced Photonics. I also began establishing my scientific independence by publishing my first article as a sole author in a Q1 journal (Phys. Rev. B). My findings on optical nonreciprocity lead to invites to deliver oral presentations at two top conferences in the fields of metamaterials and telecommunications, the “META 2019”, in which I was also a member of the jury of the “Best Poster Competition”, and at the “IEEE COMCAS 2019”. I was also an invited speaker in 3 CST – Simulia workshops with the theme of numerical simulation of metamaterials and at the COST Action CA18223 - SyMAT meeting 2023. Further recognitions of my research include being awarded the ANACOM-URSI PORTUGAL prize in 2015 and being the co-author of an article that won the “Best Theoretical Paper” in the leading conference on metamaterials “Metamaterials 2022”. Throughout my career in research, I have also actively engaged with the scientific community by undertaking the role of a reviewer for over 20 international conferences and journals. I also server as session chair at a EUCAP conference and was part of the organizing committee of the international conference EIEC 2018. Presently, I hold a position as Invited Assistant Professor at partial time in the DEEC-UC (since 2016). During my tenure I have been a jury member of six MSc thesis, 1 “Introduction to Master Thesis”, and an expert evaluator of one PhD thesis and a jury member for 8 research grants. I co-supervised 7 MSc student theses and 6 research grantees. I have also gained valuable experience in securing funding, having successfully obtained grants for my PhD and postdoctoral studies through competitive open calls from FCT. Moreover, I secured my current position through an international call, where I stood out among a pool of more than 40 applicants. Additionally, I actively participated in the research team of 8 projects that were funded through open project calls from both FCT and IT, where I contributed to writing proposals and executing research plans. I was a member of the COST Action MP1204 and currently I am a member of the research team involved in the international Simmons Collaboration, formed by researchers from all around the globe, as well as other international projects and partnerships such as the one with Huawei Technologies and the project funded by The IET: The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
