Dr. Guilherme Paim achieved his Honors degree in Electronics Engineering from UFPel (Universidade Federal de Pelotas), Brazil, in 2015. In 2021, he earned his Ph.D. degree with summa cum laude distinction in Microelectronics from UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul), Brazil. During his Ph.D., he worked as a Visiting Researcher at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany, and the University of Stuttgart, Germany, from 2019 to 2020. Dr. Paim's outstanding academic achievements were recognized with the Best Ph.D. Thesis Award in 2022 by the Brazilian Microelectronics Society (SBMicro) and the Honor Mention Ph.D. Thesis Award in 2022 by the CAPES Brazilian funding agency. Following his PhD., he continued his research journey as a Postdoc at the High-Performance Computing Architecture and Systems (HPCAS) research group at INESC-ID in Lisbon, Portugal. Currently, he holds the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at KU Leuven, Belgium, where he focuses on the design of artificial intelligence (AI) system-on-chip (SoC). Dr. Paim has actively contributed to numerous research projects, including EU H2020 CONVOLVE, ERC BINGO, Flanders FAIR, CAPES/FCT ML-DSIV, and CAPES/PROBRAL ReACT. Additionally, he serves as a consultant for Microelectronics Projects within the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MCTI). His research output includes around 100 research papers on circuits and systems, and he also serves as a Review Editor for the Frontiers in Electronics and Frontiers in Imaging journals. His research interests span a wide range of topics, including AI HW/SW co-processor design, Systems on Chip, energy-quality scalable VLSI design, approximate computing, and emerging technologies. Dr. Paim's dedication to the field extends beyond research, as he previously served as the Vice President of the Student Branch of the IEEE CAS Society RGS Chapter in Brazil from 2016 to 2019. He has also organized special sessions on cross-layer approximate computing for IEEE ISCAS and LASCAS in 2022. In 2023, he also was part of the DATE conference organization. Prior to pursuing his Ph.D., Dr. Paim held an invited assistant professorship at UFPel, where he taught courses on electricity, magnetism, and electromagnetic theory to undergraduate students. During his Ph.D. at UFRGS, he also worked as an invited assistant professor, imparting knowledge in bachelor- and master-level disciplines such as Logic Circuits, Digital Systems, and VLSI Design. At KU Leuven he taught in the "P&D Electronics and Chip Design" course which was composed of an integration project across several disciplines. In his current teaching role also at KU Leuven, Dr. Paim teaches the course Edge-AI Co-processors of the Master in IC Design. Dr. Paim will soon be joining Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) at the University of Lisbon as an Assistant Professor of Computer Architecture.
