I completed my Master's in Biotechnology at IST in 2021, where the research for my master's thesis centred on harnessing machine learning methods for disease diagnosis, culminating in a published paper. After completing my degree, I transitioned to a role as a Business Consultant at EY, a global company and one of the big four consulting firms, where I specialised in the Health Sciences and Wellness sector. During my time at EY, which lasted two years, I actively contributed to 10 diverse projects and had the opportunity to lead two of them. My engagements ranged from developing a technology roadmap for health technologies and digital health to rethinking the structure and organisation of surgical production in a public hospital centre. This experience honed my skills in project management, strategic analysis and communication with stakeholders, while fostering valuable soft skills such as adaptability and teamwork. Although I found great fulfillment in my role as a consultant, my passion for research, particularly at the intersection of precision medicine and artificial intelligence, led me to look for a new opportunity. Motivated by a strong desire to contribute to the advancement of healthcare, I made the transition to a research position on a project supervised by one of my esteemed former master's thesis supervisors. In this role, I have felt a deep sense of satisfaction as I face various challenges on a daily basis, fuelled by my enthusiasm to contribute to this field. My experience so far has solidified my belief in the transformative potential of integrating cutting-edge technologies into healthcare practices, and I look forward to continuing to make progress in this dynamic and impactful field. Recently, I have been accepted into the EIT Health PhD Module in Biomedical Engineering and Health Systems. I believe this program will provide me with invaluable preparation for my ultimate goal of pursuing a PhD.
