Pedro Naves graduated in Biology in 1999, and defended a PhD Thesis "Biology of Monochamus galloprovincialis (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) and its role as the vector of the pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Nematoda, Parasitaphelenchidae) in Portugal." in the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2007. From 1999 to 2020, Pedro Naves had several consecutive fellowships/contracts in public functions to resolute term on national and international scientific projects, participating in the planning, preparation, submission, development, and technical and financial execution of research projects. From 2020 to the present, P. Naves has a non-term contract with INIAV as Auxiliary Researcher, being the Technical Responsible for INIAV´s Acarological Laboratory. Pedro´s career as scientific researcher has focused on integrated plant protection, ecology, biology, and pest management of agricultural and forest pests, including insects and mites of quarantine regulation, with participation in 20 scientific projects and 13 research protocols, with international funding (including EU-funded Phrame and Rephrame projects) and national public and private funding by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Permanent Forest Fund (FPF), and research contracts with forestry associations and international companies (DOW, Syngenta, BASF, etc). Coordination of the FCT-funded project EXPL/ASP-AGR/0082/2021 "LewisiPT - O ácaro-de-Lewis, Eotetranychus lewisi: uma nova praga emergente, ou apenas mais um ácaro exótico?" (2022-2023) and the FCT-CRM:0048124 "Fatores envolvidos na resistência e suscetibilidade de coníferas à doença da murchidão dos pinheiros" (2014-2019). Responsible for the taxonomic identification of regulated pests (insects and mites) from phytosanitary surveys by the NPPO, with taxonomy skills on the morphological identification of adults and larval stages of different Orders of forest insects, with emphasis on Coleoptera (Cerambycidade, Buprestidae, Curculionidae/Scolitinae and Platypodinae), and on phytophagous mites of the families Tetranychidae and Tenuipalpidae, and has been responsible for the detection of 12 arthropods new to the Portuguese fauna. Other activities include training and technical/scientific assistance, consulting and divulgation, organization of technical and scientific events and education. Tutoring of two PhD Research students (one ongoing). Development of technical and scientific publications, practical guides, and field manuals to the agro-forestry sector. Invited speaker in 18 lectures, seminars, and technical and scientific congresses, with oral presentations. Trainer in 25 courses and training actions for agroforestry technicians and forest and agricultural producers, with presentation of theoretical and practical modules. Participation in 45 international and national scientific and technical meetings. Member of the organizing/scientific committee of three International meetings. Author and co-author of 128 scientific publications, resulting in a total of 644 international citations (Thomson Reuters Web of Science, March 2022; https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=14039417900), and a h-index of 14 values. Publications include: - 10 chapters in scientific / technical books (three as first author); - 32 papers in indexed scientific journals (12 as first author); - 82 papers in indexed scientific journals, oral communications in scientific congresses and technical publications (14 as first author). Scientific reviewer of 31 international scientific journals in the fields of entomology, pathology, ecology, industry, and production, with 54 review actions.

  3. Species of Bursaphelenchus Fuchs, 1937 (Nematoda: Parasitaphelenchidae) and other nematode genera associated with insects from Pinus pinaster in Portugal. Insects associated with maritime pine, Pinus pinaster, in Portugal were collected and screened for the presence of Bursaphelenchus species.
