I am a philosopher with an internationally oriented research profile centered on Nietzsche studies, the philosophy of suicide, and the philosophy of film, which I systematically integrate in my work. I earned a degree in Philosophy with the highest distinction (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Bologna (2003) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies with the highest mark (10/10) from the University of Valencia. I obtained a European PhD in Philosophy (with highest honors) from the University of Valencia in 2010, following research stays at Humboldt University of Berlin (2007–2008) and the Maison Française d’Oxford (2009–2010). During my time in Oxford, I was a Research Associate at Holywell Manor, Balliol College, University of Oxford, marking my first sustained experience as an independent researcher. My PhD thesis, awarded a PhD Prize by the University of Valencia in 2012, examined the philosophical relationship between Nietzsche and Dostoevsky. It was published as Nietzsche and Dostoevsky: On the Verge of Nihilism (Peter Lang, 2015) and remains the first monograph to offer a systematic and in-depth analysis of this relationship; a Greek translation appeared in 2020 (Govostis). This early work established Nietzsche studies as a central axis of my research. After completing my PhD, I held postdoctoral fellowships at McGill University (2011) and the University of Greifswald (2011), before being awarded a six-year FCT postdoctoral fellowship (2012–2017) at the NOVA Institute of Philosophy (IFILNOVA), NOVA University of Lisbon. My postdoctoral project developed a Nietzschean approach to evolutionary ethics, with a particular focus on the metaethical problem of moral objectivity. During this period, I consolidated my intellectual autonomy, built a coherent medium-term research agenda, and produced a sustained body of peer-reviewed publications, while becoming actively involved in international Nietzsche research networks, including the Lisbon Nietzsche Group. In parallel, I developed a second major area of specialization: the philosophy of suicide. This line of research has resulted in the monograph Philosophical Perspectives on Suicide: Kant, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and Wittgenstein (Palgrave, 2020) and in the co-editing of The Oxford Handbook of the Philosophy of Suicide (Oxford University Press, 2025), a comprehensive reference work that significantly consolidates the field. A third, more recent research axis is the philosophy of film. Originating from a long-standing engagement with cinema, this work has developed into a sustained philosophical project, leading to several articles and book chapters. In 2018, I was invited to teach the Master’s-level course Film and Philosophy at NOVA University of Lisbon. This research trajectory culminated in the publication of my most recent book (in Italian), devoted to the largely unexplored intersection between Nietzsche and film. Since September 2025, I have been a tenure-track researcher at IFILNOVA, where I hold the chair in philosophy of film. I continue to work across my three main research areas, which I increasingly integrate; I have recently submitted a manuscript for a Cambridge Elements volume on Nietzsche and the Good European (currently under revision). I have supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses, participated in several funded research projects, and served as coordinator of the Lisbon Nietzsche Group (2022–2024), gaining solid experience in research leadership, coordination, and project management. I regularly organize international conferences, deliver invited talks abroad, and act as a referee for major academic publishers and international journals, confirming the international scope, maturity, and leadership readiness of my academic profile.
