Filipe Coreta-Gomes got is PhD in Biological Chemistry in 2014 at Coimbra University. In 2015/2016 he got an MBA at Porto Business School, at Porto University and in 2017 he got a FCT Postdoc Fellowship to work at Chemistry Department, University of Aveiro. From 2019, he got a position of Junior Researcher in this institution, belonging to LAQV&REQUIMTE research unit working in the field of food chemistry, biophysics and biochemistry. During this period Filipe was able to obtain funding from FCT with the project FightSterol (PTDC/QUI-OUT/29373/2017, 212 kEuros) as Principal Investigator, and also was a collaborator (MTS/BRB/0056/2020, 100 kEuros), to explore bioactive properties of several food and its by-products. His research was awarded with young scientist award in 2018 at CocoTea Asia conference held in Hefei (China) and the best poster award in 2019 at EPNOE held in Aveiro (Portugal). He has regularly published is work in peer review journals (19 articles) and have been present in several conferences both with oral (13) and poster (27) communications. He was also involved in a patent (EP22186572.8) submission. He is a invited editor of a special issue of Marine Drugs Journal. Moreover, he has been involved in the supervision of several degrees’ students (13) and master (2). Currently, he is supervising of 3 PhD fellows. Its current research interests encompass a) extraction and characterization of compounds (polysaccharides, lipids, phenolic compounds, proteins) from food matrices (coffee, algae, mushrooms and pine nut); b) evaluate the chemical changes suffered during gastrointestinal digestion and fermentation of characterized extracts and evaluating their influence on hypocholesterolemic and neuroprotective potential, c) determine the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of bioactive compounds; d) development of food functional ingredients.
