As a researcher in Agronomic Sciences with emphasis on Biological Sciences, I have in been involved in several activities as a researcher, scientific consultant and R&D project manager. These activities enable me to not only to continuing publishing in international peer-review journals, but also to get a perspective of stakeholders objectives. Thus, currently I am the Knowledge and Innovation Manager at ISA-ULisboa Projects and Innovation Office, sharing my experience and knowledge to my research colleagues aiding them to obtain partnerships and funding towards innovative solutions and technologies. Nevertheless, I am still passionate about exploring the outstanding potential of Lablab purpureus (L.) Sweet, which is a multifunctional legume with outstanding ability to withstand long periods of drought, even more that cowpea or common bean. Since I have started studying this crop, my interest has grown wanting to know more about the mechanisms behind its fitness under severe conditions, such as drought. Moreover, field trials with smallholders in marginal regions and professional farmers for tomato industry have been giving remarkable results, with significant increases in soil organic matter and NPK from one year to another using Lablab as green manure, as well as, the ability of Lablab to thrive under severe drought while providing green cover in marginal areas under agroforestry systems. Although this crop offers numerous benefits, from human nutrition to economic revenue and conservation agriculture, there has been a lack of knowledge about the physiological mechanisms that are behind its drought endurance. Extensive work has been made in pursue of unraveling Lablab genetic and agro-morphological diversity, origin, and the agronomic aspects to ensure high yields, but very little in its physiological mechanisms. Since the beginning of my PhD, my research has been focused mainly on allying photosynthesis with biochemistry and transcriptomics, three approaches that if interconnected can offer an overall view of the plant response mechanism to abiotic stress.

In this short but intensive course we shall give you both a theoretical and practical (hands on) introduction to Mass Spectrometry. The course comprises introductory lectures and also practicals covering sample preparation and measurements using LC and GC technologies as well as giving significant emphasis to data processing, data analysis.
