In 2015, I was selected to join the Ibero-American Program for the Training of Doctors in Basic Sciences (AUIP), at the University of Cadiz (UCA). During this period, I gained experience related to the maintenance procedures of microalgae cultures. I also acquired skills by performing procedures related to extraction and purification of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), RT-PCR, PCR, primer design, electrophoresis, statistical analysis, protein isolation and purification techniques, both at the total protein level, and isolation of recombinant proteins by affinity chromatography. In addition, I gained experience in cDNA synthesis, dsRNA synthesis by in vitro transcription, the use of restriction enzymes, ligation techniques, the use of different vectors, cloning, and transformation techniques, SDS-PAGE, as well as the use of different equipment and software associated with these procedures. In addition, I also gained experience in Big Data analysis obtained through different omics platforms (transcriptomics and proteomics). This work greatly impacted in my career, gaining more independence and confidence to design and develop new experiments without supervision. During this period, I participated in the execution of 4 research projects in parallel, which resulted in the publication of 8 articles. In addition, 5 research mobilities were carried out, both national and international (ICMAN-CSIC Spain; CIIMAR Portugal; PUCV Chile; UNIFE Italy; ITESM Mexico), 2 patent applications (1 granted), 3 contributions to congresses and 7 pre-doctoral scholarships were obtained. The postdoctoral stage was initiated in 2021 through a research fellowship associated with the BE4AQUAHEALTH project, executed between the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and CIIMAR (Portugal). In 2022, I was selected in the Margarita Salas program as PI of a 3-year postdoctoral contract (2021-067/PN/MS-RECUAL/CD) associated with the UCA (https://rnm216.uca.es/) and CIIMAR (https://a2s.ciimar.up.pt/team/). During this period, I have been able to gain experience in the execution of various methodologies related to the characterization of the immune response of fish and crustaceans against the presence of bacterial pathogens of importance for the aquaculture sector. Specifically, it has been possible to deepen the implementation of different molecular biology techniques, such as RT-qPCR analysis and statistical validation, among others. As a result of the postdoctoral stage, I have participated in various research projects within the receptor group A2S-CIIMAR, managing to publish 8 articles so far, and in addition, 6 presentations have been made at international conferences. In summary, I have contributed to the publication of 19 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, with a total of 281 citations, h-index, and i10 index of 9 (Google Scholar). Several papers are projected to be released in 2024, so my impact as a scientist will continue to increase with a good trend. Until now, I have carried out a total of 7 research stays (1 national and 6 international), 2 patent applications (1 granted), contributed to 3 book chapters, participated in 10 research projects and 13 conferences (3 national and 10 international), held 17 professional update courses, and obtained 10 scholarships between pre- and post-doctoral level. During the last 3 years, my research activity has focused on 2 main lines: 1) Characterization of the immune response of fish against the presence of different bacterial pathogens in the aquaculture sector. 2) Development of methods for the control of viral and bacterial pathogens in crustacean and fish aquaculture through the use of RNA interference (RNAi), or by the production of antigenic peptides, combined with the concept of whole-cell therapeutics and genetic engineering of microalgae.
