My research covers bio- and ecoacoustics, focusing on estuarine and marine ecosystems. I use machine learning tools to manage acoustic data, study fish vocalizations, behavior, and reproduction patterns, assess marine biodiversity and human-generated noise effects, and ultimately promote the use of Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) for marine conservation. I graduated with honors in Biology in 2011, received the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Prize, earned an MSc in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in 2013, and developed the first fish call recognition algorithm. In 2022, I completed a PhD in Biology, winning the Young Scientist of the Year award in 2021. I have published numerous peer-reviewed articles on marine bio- and ecoacoustics and noise impact, serve on the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Ethological Society, and collaborate with an NGO on environmental projects.

2024/07 - 2024/08 Oceanographic mission dedicated to offshore Marine Protected Areas in the Madeira-Tore region (Oceanic MPA Campaign). This multidisciplinary research campaign focused on gathering the information needed to characterize the biodiversity and habitats on the major seamounts. It was carried out onboard the research vessel Mário Ruivo of the fleet of the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere, I.P.
