I hold a BSc in Applied Biology and an MSc in Ecology from the University of Minho. Currently, I am a PhD student at Cardiff University (UK) funded by FCT (SFRH/BD/146509/2019) and PI of the "Population viability of non-human primates of the Bijagós Archipelago, Guinea-Bissau, West Africa" research project funded by the Primate Conservation Inc. (USA) and the Genetics Society (UK). The goals of these projects are 1) to improve the knowledge on the cultural importance of non-human primates (primates hereafter) for the bijagó ethnic group; 2) to investigate the relative influence of landscape and anthropogenic factors in shaping the genomic diversity of primates in the Bijagós Archipelago. I aim to contribute to the conservation of primates using multi-disciplinary approaches. Particularly, we will combine genetic/genomic tools with social sciences. This conjugation is essential because human communities' views and perceptions are essential when designing conservation actions. I have been working on conservation genetics/genomics of primate species since 2016. During this time, I have attended several advanced courses to improve my applied conservation genetics/genomics skills. I am skilled in laboratory methodologies and in conducting non-spatially and spatially explicit analysis of genetic/genomic data. These research skills have been applied to different African primate species.

2023/03/01 - 2023/04/01 Field expedition to the Cufada Lagoons Natural Park, Guinea-Bissau (1 months) The aim of the field expedition was to access the existence of the spot-nosed monkey in the region using a combination of ethnographic methods and species detection.
2022/04/01 - 2022/06/15 Field expedition to the islands of Formosa, Chedia, Nago, Canhabaque and Bubaque of the Bijagós Archipelago, Guinea-Bissau (3 months) The field expedition had two main objectives: 1) characterise the perceptions of non-Human primates by the Bijagó ethnic group and assessment of the local sociozoologic scale; 2) collection of fecal samples from ranging primate groups for genetic analysis.
