In 2010, Joana P Neto completed her M.Sc in Biomedical Engineering from FCT-UNL in Portugal. Her master's thesis focused on applying new materials to healthcare applications was awarded by the European Materials Society. In 2012, Joana was awarded a PhD scholarship from FCT for her project entitled "Materials and Neuroscience: Validating Tools for Large-Scale, High-Density Neural Recording." She developed the project at CENIMAT/i3N, Champalimaud Foundation, and University College London. Through her work, she established long-lasting and fruitful collaborations with researchers from these three institutes, resulting in three posters presented at international conferences, one book chapter, and six peer-reviewed papers published in Q1 journals. She also played an active role in starting a new research line at Kampff Lab, resulting in the development of methodology and datasets that are freely available online and serve as a foundation for neuroscience research. After receiving her PhD degree in Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences in 2018 from UNL, Joana has focused on exploring minimal-invasive electrophysiology tools using parylene-C as an ultrathin and conformable substrate, as well as transparent materials for electrodes, taking advantage of unique properties of novel nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Overall, Joana collaborated with over 70 authors, has an h-index of 10 with over 800 citations (Google Scholar). She participated as a team member in national and international projects and developed a strong international network. She supervised and mentored over 16 researchers, lectured in master's and PhD programs, and co-organized and participated in international workshops and public engagement activities.
