Eduarda Silveira holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a specialization in Microbiology from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Porto, Portugal. In 2009, she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Fernando Pessoa University, Porto, Portugal. She has been involved in teaching since 2015 and is currently a full-time faculty member at the Vasco da Gama University School and a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC). Since 2018, she has been a full member of the Scientific Council of the Vasco da Gama University School. She has supervised numerous end-of-cycle degree projects (undergraduate and master's) and presided over various master's thesis defense panels. Her scientific career has been focused on the epidemiology and monitoring of Antimicrobial Resistance (antibiotics and biocides), characterization of genetic environments, evolution, and stability of clones associated with antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from different niches, framed in a transversal perspective of 'One Health' and in the discovery of alternatives to combat the problem. She also has a strong component of Science Communication to contribute to the increase in Health Literacy. Due to the growing limitation of available therapeutic resources, she is currently engaged in researching metabolites from marine organisms and microorganisms with potential antimicrobial activity against clinically relevant bacteria and exploring new biocompatible alternatives for controlled drug delivery. To promote social responsibility through an innovative scientific-pedagogical strategy, strongly grounded in effective Science Communication, she initiated and coordinated the MicroMundo project, as well as the international project Superbug Awareness For Education (SAFE) at the Vasco da Gama University School. Both projects aim to raise awareness about the issue of antimicrobial resistance. She has also been participating annually in community outreach activities such as the "International Microorganism Day." Recently, she joined a European working group responsible for the preparation of a report published by the European Commission on identifying barriers to the development and effective implementation of national policies on antimicrobial resistance. In the realm of organizational management skills, she serves as the Secretary of the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the Vasco da Gama University School. She was the coordinator of the R&D unit Vasco da Gama Research Center at the Vasco da Gama University School (2018-2022), responsible for preparing and submitting the unit's application to the Foundation for Science and Technology, and overseeing the coordination and management of projects and teams.
