Antonio Gloria received a Ph.D. degree in "Chemical, Materials and Production Engineering" from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy. Since 2011 he is Visiting Professor at the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP)- Polytechnic of Leiria, Portugal - and Associate Member of the CDRSP. He is Senior Researcher at the National Research Council of Italy-Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (CNR-IPCB). Antonio Gloria is responsible for the laboratories of "Mechanical Properties" and "Reverse Engineering" at CNR-IPCB, and he was co-founder of the start-up "FASTISSUES" (srls) (development of 3D polymer-based and customized scaffolds for tissue engineering with tailored mechanical, biological and functional properties, using additive manufacturing and reverse engineering). He was Professor of "Biomaterials" at the University of Catanzaro "Magna Graecia" - Italy, Professor of "Artificial Organs and Prostheses", "Materials Science and Technology", "Fundamentals of Chemistry and Biomaterials" and "Biomaterials" at the University of Naples Federico II. He was involved in several national and international projects. He was member of the European Society for Biomaterials, the Italian Society of Biomaterials, the American Chemical Society and full member of the American Nano Society. As a member of the "Italian Society of Biomechanics in Orthopedics and Traumatology", in October 2013 he was appointed as Scientific Advisor/Counselor and he is also Treasurer since January 2016. He is also member of the Italian Association of Design Methods and Tools for Industrial Engineering. He received many national and international awards (e.g. Best Paper Award from the organising committee of the 4th International Conference on Advanced Research in Virtual and Rapid Prototyping VR@P - October 2009, Leiria, Portugal - for the paper presented on the biomanufacturing session entitled "BioExtruder: study of the influence of process parameters on PCL scaffolds properties" - authors: M. Domingos, F. Chiellini, A. Gloria, et al. - contribution as co-author). Antonio Gloria was awarded and appointed as "Future Leader" in Science and Technology ("Dialogue between Nobel Laureates and Future Leaders", STS forum " October 2015, Kyoto, Japan). He gave also invited lectures at international conferences, workshops and seminars. He supervised PhD students and MD students at the University of Naples Federico II and at the CDRSP. His works deal with: design and preparation of polymeric and polymer-based micro/nano-composite scaffolds using "conventional" and additive manufacturing techniques; morphological, mechanical, biological and functional analysis of scaffolds for tissue engineering; modelling/simulation and image analysis; design, preparation and characterization of injectable gels and semi-IPNs; characterization of devices and biological tissues at macro-, micro- and nano-level; design and optimization of polymeric and composite devices for several kinds of applications. In 2016 he was appointed as member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Fraunhofer International Joint Laboratory IDEAS - University of Naples Federico II and member of The Royal Society (UK) - International Exchanges Committee in January 2020. His main research interests include: Design for Additive Manufacturing, Reverse Engineering, Design of Additive Manufactured Magnetic Scaffolds, Magnetic Stimulation, 3D/4D Printing, Reverse Engineering, Modeling, Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Biomechanics, Biomimetics and Bioinspiration, Nanomaterials, Design of Experiments, Mechanical Analysis, Materials Properties, Design Methods and Manufacturing, Materials Science and Technology. He is currently author of international papers, book chapters, books, communications/contributions in international and national conferences. He is also reviewer and Editorial Board Member of international scientific journals.
