Maria Helena Godinho is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Materials Science Department at the School of Science and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT/NOVA) and member of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters since 2024. She has a D.Sc, PhD, and MSc in Materials Science from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia/NOVA University and a graduation in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon. She was a Nato/Invotan fellow at the Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée at Nice University in France. She was awarded the 2023 Onsager Professorship and Medal, and in 2019, the "Frederiks medal" in the field of Liquid Crystals Chemistry. Service to the scientific community: Vice-Presidency of the International Liquid Crystal Society (ILCS)(2016-2020). Invited overseas lecturer British Liquid Crystal Society. Chairperson: 28th International Liquid Crystal Conference; 6th International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference. Member of the Steering Committee: International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference; Member of the Scientific Committee of the 26th and 29th International Liquid Crystal Conference; Member of the International Advisory Board: 8th Ibero-American Workshop on Complex Fluids and their Applications. Since 1965, when the first ILCC was organized at Kent State University, all ILCC meetings have been outstanding events at which the liquid crystal community gets together to present the newest breakthroughs and ideas. The 28th ILCC meeting will be an excellent inclusive opportunity to discuss current issues and challenges, to support and appreciate the achievements of early-career researchers and young students.
