Roque Brandão began his activity as a professor of higher education on October 1, 1998 at the Universidade Moderna do Porto, and on February 1, 2001 he joined the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto as an assistant professor. In 2005 he obtained a master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering - Scientific Area of Energy Systems, from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, with a final classification of Good with Distinction. The master's thesis was on State Estimation in Power Transmission Networks with Anomaly Detection and Identification, and the work carried out as part of the master's degree focused on analyzing the problem of state estimation in electrical power systems and the methodologies for detecting and identifying gross errors in the measurements that reach the control centers. Between 2007 and 2012 he carried out his doctoral work at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. The work carried out as part of the PhD analyzed the problem of breakdowns associated with the most important equipment in wind turbines, namely the gearbox and the electric generator, which, due to the need for essential equipment for repairs and the consequent costs involved, need to be monitored in order to be able to predict serious breakdowns. Artificial intelligence techniques were applied through the use of neural networks to analyze information and define fault alerts for the two pieces of equipment mentioned. During the period of his doctorate (academic years 2007/2008 to 2011/2012) he was awarded a research grant by the FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology - under the reference SFRH / BD / 44714 / 2008, financed by POPH - QREN - Typology 4.1, advanced training, co-financed by the European Social Fund and national funds from MCTES. He was a researcher at INESC Porto ¿ Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science, between December 2008 and January 2012. He is currently working with CIETI - Center for Innovation in Engineering and Industrial Technology, a research group at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, and has been part of the research team for 4 research projects submitted to international investment programs. As a researcher he published 2 scientific articles in international journals, 1 book chapter, 21 scientific papers in international conferences, 4 abstracts in national conferences and 16 technical articles in national technical journals. He is a member of the scientific committee of several national and international conferences and is normally invited to be part of the local organization committee of several conferences.
