I have a Masters in Management of Natural Resources and a Ph.D. in Forest Engineering and Natural Resources both from the School of Agriculture, University of Lisbon. I have participated in several national and international research projects. My research focused on grassland diversity, understory diversity in eucalyptus plantations, restoration of oak woodlands, and ecosystem responses to drought. My Ph.D. focused on the effects of nutrient addition and drought on the functional trait diversity and functioning of Mediterranean grasslands. I am interested in trait-based ecology to develop ecological indicators of the effects of global change drivers such as climate change and N deposition on ecosystem functioning, and ecosystem services delivery. I am involved in three projects both focusing on cork oak resilience to climate change. Currently, I am supervising two MSc students. I have been a reviewer for 8 scientific journals, including Global Change Biology, Journal of Ecology, and Science of the Total Environment. I am a co-Principal Investigator of a project on foliar water uptake contribution to water status and carbon assimilation in Mediterranean ecosystems.
