The candidate's professional career has taken a cross-sectoral and transdisciplinary trajectory from the academy to the heritage arena and back again. From 1991 to 2009, he was trained in history and archaeology at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, where he had lived since 1991 (he lived in France before). He started his professional career as a research assistant at the Archaeological Institute (University of Coimbra), where he worked between 1996 and 1999. During this period, he had been one of the pioneers of the digital Humanities in Portugal. He was the founder and director of: one of the first archaeological journals on-line, 'Cyberarqueólogo Português' (1995-2001); one of the first websites related to archaeology, 'Les gravures paléolithiques de la vallée du Côa' in 1996 (around 2.1 million visitors between 1999 and 2006, based on the Centro de Informática da Universidade de Coimbra statistics, http://www1.ci.uc.pt/fozcoa/fr.batalha.html) ; the first mailing list of Portuguese archaeologists between 1996 and 2001 (ARCHPORT). This forum, with today near 2000 members, was distinguished with an honourable mention in 2008 by the jury of the 'Prémio Nacional de Ambiente Fernando Pereira'. Meanwhile, he conducted numerous archaeological and ethnological fieldwork campaigns in the framework of the Archaeological Institute and later of his own commercial companies, POST QUEM Ldª and after AMS Ldª, between 1999 and 2005. During this year, he won the 'Aplauso Millennium' management prize (BCP Millennium Bank/Management School of Oporto). As a professional researcher, he participated in 9 archaeological excavations, 5 geophysical surveys and coordinated 4 intra-site surveys, 5 geophysical surveys, 13 archaeological/ethnological monitoring campaigns, 4 archaeological/ethnological evaluations of building projects and 45 archaeological/ethnographical interventions. It is worth mentioning that he directed one of the most extensive archaeological excavations in Portugal to date, the dig of the Roman site Castro do Vieito: 1 year of fieldwork (150 team-members); 3 years of laboratory work (10 team-members); surface affected: 15.000m2; total budget around 1.000.000 euros; client: Ferrovial SA. The recognition of the importance of this archaeological intervention by the scientific community gave him later the opportunity to coordinate the project 'Archaeometric studies of the Roman amphorae from Lusitania and Baetica' with Benilde Costa (University of Coimbra) and Fritz Wagner (Technical Univ. of Munich). Between 2008 and 2011, he taught at the Univ. of Coimbra (Archaeology and Informatics) and at the UNISOB of Naples (Erasmus teaching mission, 2010). In 2010, after getting his PhD degree in History (specialization in Archaeology; concluded in 2009; published in 2012), he shifted his research in a new direction as a postdoctoral fellow funded by the FCT. In the next six years, he studied the relation between discourses, identity, and food heritage in the Mediterranean. After that, he continued to investigate the F&B legacies in a historical perspective and also as an intangible cultural heritage, an attraction for tourism and an instrument of governmentality. He has lived in Madeira since 2017, having already produced several works and oral communications about the F&B traditions of the archipelago. Since 2019, he has been a guest professor at the University of Madeira (Higher School of Technologies and Management), where he teaches subjects related to food history/ethnology and natural/cultural heritage in several courses which prepare students to work in the hospitality and tourism industry.
