  1. Invertebrate and benthic diatom dynamics in Mediterranean intermittent streams of southern Portugal. The main hypotheses of the present work are to demonstrate that diatom and invertebrate communities develop adaptations to water intermittency, benthic diatoms reflect spatial and temporal gradients, and diatoms in dry biofilm as well as carabids are good ecological quality indicators during dry conditions. To test these hypotheses, macroinvertebrates, diatoms and carabids were sampled in 18 sites. 2019. 2. Qualidade da água no reservatório de Alqueva. Monthly in situ measurements obtained in Alqueva reservoir, ongoing since February 2016, of the following parameters were used: Secchi depth and spectral attenuation coefficient. In order to achieve reliable remote detection methods for continuous monitoring and good spatial coverage of physical parameters affecting the water quality of reservoirs such as Alqueva, data obtained from sensors on boa. 2018. 3. Ecotoxicological tools to assess the impact pollution of tributaries to the Alqueva Reservoir (Southern Portugal). Degradation of surface waters and biodiversity loss at different spatial and temporal scales occurs through multiple stressors whose effects are difficult to separate and identify. Efficient management of water bodies depends on the development and selection of robust, sensitive and easily applicable tools that allow prioritizing the pressures and stressors that act in a basin, and mitigate their. 2018. 4. Macroinvertebrate and diatom communities were sampled in intermittent streams (i.e. no superficial flow for more than 3 months) of southern Portugal, in spring and end summer 2017 (when carabids were also sampled). The ecological classification of the 18 sampling sites ranged from Moderate to High in spring (flow conditions), according to the Water Framework Directive. During summer, high hydrolog. 2018. 12. Diatoms and ground beetles (Coleoptera) in intermittent and permanent rivers in Monchique mountains (Southern Portugal). The importance of intermittent watercourses is widely recognized, as they represent a great part of the river network worldwide. This is also the case of Portugal, where it is estimated that more than 80% of the territory is drained by intermittent rivers. Given their importance, a study with benthic diatoms and ground beetles (Coleopteran: Carabidae) was carried out to understand their value as b. 2017. 15. Alqueva hydro-meteorological experiment(alex): first results of aquatic ecological assessment. The ALqueva hydro-meteorological EXperiment (ALEX) field campaign took place monthly during summer 2014 and consisted in in situ measurements and sampling of water and biological elements, collected from three fixed platforms placed in the lacustrine zone. This integrated overview, including meteorological, environmental and biological results contributes to improve the knowledge of the reservoir. 2016. 16. Assessment of different Lippia sidoides genotypes regarding their acaricidal activity against Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. Abstract The aim of this study was to select different genotypes of Lippia sidoides with the highest activity against larvae and engorged females of the tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus. The germplasms studied were LSID006, LSID102, LSID103 and LSID104. The LSID104 genotype, that presented carvacrol as a major constituent, was the germplasm with the worst larvicide effect (LC50 2.99 mg/mL). 2016. 20. Monitoring cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins in Alqueva Reservoir, Portugal. Alqueva is nowadays the most important water reservoir in Portugal. Additionally, it is becoming an important agronomic and touristic region. These facts bring the questions of the water quality use. During the Alqueva hydro-meteorological experiment (ALEX) campaign, the team of the Water Laboratory from the University of Évora investigated the biological quality indicators of the Alqueva water. 21. Interactions lake-atmosphere: The ALEX 2014 field campaign and numerical simulations. The ALqueva hydro-meteorological EXperiment, ALEX 2014, was an integrated field campaign with measurements of chemical, physical and biological parameters in water and air at different experimental sites in the region of the Alqueva reservoir, a 250 km2 man made lake, in the southeast of Portugal. The Field campaign took place from June 1 to September 30, 2014 and comprises an Intensive Observatio. 2015.
