I got my BSc (2003) and MSc (2005) degrees in Chemistry (Organic Synthesis specialty) at FCUP, and my PhD (2009) in Computational Medicinal Chemistry at Univ. Paris Diderot-Paris 7. In 2008, I was awarded the L'Oreal France-Unesco For Women in Science (FWIS) prize for my excellent scientific skills and outstanding research work. I returned to Portugal in 2010, and was invited by a computational and experimental group to develop novel bioactive molecules (post-doc grant, JAN.10-MAR.16). In APR.16, I started a Researcher position at LAQV-REQUIMTE working on peptide-based strategies to combat microbial pathogens in human health, and implementing a new research line on the application of antimicrobial peptides to the agro-food industry (spanning from food spoilage prevention to crop protection), pioneering this field in Portugal. I combined my scientific career with i) teaching: Invited Adjunct Professor at ESS-PPORTO since 2017 (4h/week); ii) (co-)supervision of 4 PhD , 9 MSc , 14 BSc , and 6 Erasmus+ internship students; iii) member of Thesis (4 BSc, 2 MSc and 2 PhD-probation year) and Selection Committees for research fellowships; iv) speaker in >20 scientific events, mostly international; v) reviewer for 22 SCI-indexed journals, vi) guest editor of 4 Special Issues; vii) outreach activities to promote science amongst pre-University students; and viii) member of the Chemistry Dep. Safety Committee (FCUP). Since SEP.22, I am working as a Peptide Chemist at Gyros Protein Technologies, a leading provider of solutions for peptide synthesis.
