Miguel Potes, graduated in Meteorology, Oceanography and Geophysics through Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, with the thesis "Study of water quality in Alqueva reservoir using ENVISAT-MERIS satellite" in 2006. Miguel Potes joined Evora Geophysics Centre (CGE - http://www.cge.uevora.pt/en) in 2008 soon after his Master degree in Evora University under the thesis "Climate and water quality on Guadiana basin". Having a solid knowledge in Physics of Atmosphere and Climate, Miguel Potes finish his PhD in 2013 with a thesis entitled "Remote sensing and in situ determination of physical and micro-biological parameters of inland waters and its application on lake-atmosphere modelling". In 2014 Miguel Potes has been involved in the study of the interface between meteorology and physical limnology, in particular, applying his knowledge to inland water bodies, as the Portuguese Alqueva basin, the largest artificial reservoir in West Europe, trying also, to understand the impact in the surrounding atmospheric environment. In the same summer, he was one of the key organizers of an international intensive measurement campaign on lake-atmosphere interaction, which took place in the south of Portugal. ALqueva observational EXperiment (ALEX2014 - www.alex2014.cge.uevora.pt) resulted in an inter-disciplinary database useful for the researchers working on Alqueva reservoir, but also for the national scientific community. This field campaign improved the knowledge of energy and mass fluxes between large reservoirs and the atmosphere, and the development of thermal circulations on semiarid Mediterranean conditions. In 2015 Miguel Potes was member of the organizing committee of the fourth Workshop in "Parameterization of Lakes in Numerical Weather Prediction and Climate Modelling" (http://www.lake15.cge.uevora.pt/), co-organized with the WG3 meeting of COST Action ES1404, held by Institute of Earth Science (ICT - institute formed in 2015 with CGE and other two Portuguese groups - https://www.icterra.pt/g1/) and Evora University. Also in 2015 Miguel Potes received the EMS Young Scientist Award from European Meteorological Society. Since 2016 Miguel Potes is intensively involved in ALOP project (ALentejo Observation and Prediction systems - http://www.alop.ict.uevora.pt/). This study is the continuity of ALEX project with major concerns on prevision and alert system for atmosphere and water quality. As a postdoc in ICT Miguel Potes is now focused in the development of a portable underwater apparatus for measurements of spectral downwelling irradiance profiles in order to obtain the attenuation coefficient of light on different types of water. These in situ measurements intend to be a valuable tool for satellite remote sensing calibration of some surface products related to water reflectance and transparency. In 2019 he got an contract with University of Évora and ICT as Júnior Researcher in the scientific area of Atmospheric Physics and Climate.
