Ana Rufino (AR) graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra, in 2008, and completed her PhD in Pharmacy: Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy in 2015. She also gained teaching experience between 2014 and 2018 as an invited lecturer in the Nursing program at Escola Superior de Saúde Norte da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa. Over the past five years, AR has focused on research in biomaterials and tissue engineering. From 2019 to 2023, she was a contracted researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE, University of Porto, working on advanced scientific studies, in pharmacology, chemistry and biological activity of natural products. Since February 2023, she has been a Senior Researcher at Metatissue, a biotechnology company specializing in the design, development, and validation of human-based biomaterials for 3D cell culture and tissue engineering, where she leads R&D and D&V processes. Globally, AR co-authored 23 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, most of them with high impact (Q1 and Q2) in the in scientific areas of Drug discovery, Pharmacology, Cell biology, Molecular biology, Biochemistry and Medicinal chemistry, with 941 citations and 12-h index, being the first author of 8 of them. Ana Rufino also published in other relevant areas as Complementary and alternative medicine, Chemistry and Agricultural and Biological Science. She has delivered multiple oral presentations, including at international conferences, and presented research posters at national and international events. Additionally, abstracts from several of these communications have been published in international peer-reviewed journals. In 2021 AR had a FCT financed project as principal investigator and is currently enrolled as a posdoc researcher in several European commission funded projects. AR is internationally recognized as a peer reviewer for multiple journals and a guest editor for Pharmaceutics. AR has supervised students in drug discovery, biochemistry and biotecnhology, including MSc, pre-graduate, and PhD students, as well as academic and curricular internships. These experiences further enhanced her understanding of the translational link between academic research and industry. Additionally, AR has developed a solid foundation and strong autonomy in both theoretical and experimental aspects of cellular and molecular biology, as well as molecular pharmacology and biomaterials.
