Fátima Fernandes is a Researcher of the Associated Laboratory REQUIMTE, working at Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Porto (FFUP). She is graduated in Biotechnology Engineering and has a PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is (co)-author of 33 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and 2 book chapters. Her research works have been also presented in several national and international meetings, both as oral (7) and poster (48) communications. Her scientific and academic activity include the participation in research projects, organization and management of scientific events and reviewer role, teaching-related activities, supervising activity and participation in juries of public examinations. Her main research interest has been focused on the chemical characterization of natural matrices, both from terrestrial and marine origin, applying chromatographic techniques (LC-MSn, HPLC-DAD, HPLC-UV, GC-MS and GC-FID) and on the study of their biological properties, through cellular and cell free systems, as well as in vivo models assays. In the last years, my research work has been focused in the search of targeted bioactive extracts and compounds from marine organisms, namely seaweeds, with multimodal acting capacity in targets underlying metabolic changes in diabetes.
