Luísa Maria Ferreira has a Ph.D. in Chemistry, specialization in Organic Chemistry, since July 1994, from Nova School of Science and Technology - Nova University Lisbon, and habilitation on the same area since 2021. She has developed her scientific activity in projects that highlight the multidisciplinary aspects of organic chemistry, with a focus on the development of new synthetic methodologies in solving problems ranging from food sciences to conservation of historical artefacts, passing through the challenges of toxicology or of total synthesis of bioactive synthetic targets. She is currently an Integrated Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE, Associate Laboratory for Green Chemistry - Chemistry and Technology Network. As result of her scientific activity, is co-author of three patents (two with provisional application and one published), 55 scientific publications in international journals with arbitration, object of about 975 citations by the end of 2021, reflecting an h-factor of 18 (Scopus) plus a book chapter, 3 publications in professional journals, 8 oral communications and many poster communications in national and international scientific meetings. She has been raising funding to run her research by applying to national and international projects and by direct funding from industry to develop solutions to various problems. In this direct financing by the industry, there are two different situations: the search for solutions to problems posed directly by the pharmaceutical industries and financing by a chemical industry to test the industrial viability of the production and use of a cellulose derivative developed and patented by the research team. In the field of pedagogical and scientific guidance, she has accompanied, under supervision or co-supervision, 7 post-doctoral researchers, 5 doctoral students (of which 3 are ongoing), 21 master's students (of which 1 is ongoing), 21 scholarship holders. funded research projects and more than 50 undergraduate students in ¿Project¿ curricular units. It has also integrated doctoral (8) and master's (24) juries and a high number of juris in ¿Project¿ curricular units. In the university management and extension, she has already held several positions in FCT NOVA's statutory bodies, and actively participates in many science dissemination actions, whether within FCT NOVA or elsewhere. Since 2018 she has acted as an expert near arbitral courts on patent issues related to the pharmaceutical industry. Recently, the design and synthesis of a cellulosic-based polymer to solve a technological problem in wine production led to the publication of a patent that has provoked the interest of industries that produce technological aids for the wine industry and the leadership of a new line of research dedicated to the modification and manipulation of this type of polymer.
