Catarina Marçal Correia obtained a Master's Degree in Clinical Biochemistry, by the University of Aveiro, in 2021, with a grade of 16 out of 20. Her dissertation, entitled "(E)-2-Styrylchromones - Synthesis and evaluation of the inhibitory effects on the oxidative burst produced by human monocytes", obtained a grade of 18 out of 20, and the results of this work are part of an article she is preparing for submission, in a near future. Catarina Correia was a research fellow, in LAQV/REQUIMTE-Aveiro, between 2018 and 2021, in the project "SCRAtis - 2-Styrylchromones in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: a promising therapeutic alternative", in collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, where she also developed part of her Master's dissertation. She has acquired diverse skills not only in Organic Chemistry such as synthesis, purification techniques and structural characterization by NMR, but also in the evaluation of biological activities of the compounds synthesized by her during her investigation and dissertation's work, namely "in chemico" and "in vitro assays", flow cytometry and manipulation of cell cultures. Catarina Correia is co-author of two journal articles "Chalcones as Modulators of Neutrophil Oxidative Burst under Physiological and High Glucose Conditions. J. Nat. Prod. 2020, 83 (10), 3131-3140" and "A Study towards Drug Discovery for the Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus through Inhibition of the Carbohydrate-Hydrolyzing Enzymes alpha-Amylase and alpha-Glucosidase by Chalcone Derivatives. Food Funct. 2019, 10 (9), 6203". She is also co-author of two oral communications "Styrylpyrazoles: Synthesis and Evaluation of Their Antioxidant and Anticancer Properties", which will be presented at the 14th Organic Chemistry Meeting & 7th National Medicinal Chemistry Meeting, in Costa da Caparica, and "Antioxidant activity of (styryl)pyrazoles and preliminary structure-activity relationship studies", presented at the XXIV Encontro Luso Galego de Química, in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, in 2018. Furthermore, Catarina Correia is first author of a conference poster "Synthesis of polyhydroxychalcones and flavones", presented at the XXVI Encontro Nacional da Sociedade Portuguesa de Química, in the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, in 2019, and co-author of two other conference posters "Polyphenols as Potential Modulators of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus through the Inhibition of Glycogen Phosphorylase", presented at the Polyphenols 2021 World Congress, and "Chalcones versus 2-styrylchromones: Which are the best oxygen and nitrogen reactive species scavengers?", presented at the 7th International Electronic Conference on Medicinal Chemistry, both in 2021. Additionally, Catarina Correia obtained a grade of 18 out of 20 in the Advanced Specialization in Forensic Sciences, Criminal Investigation and Deviant Behaviour, by the CRIAP Institute, also in 2021. Catarina Marçal Correia is also a very active person in the community since she a Scout and has participated in several academic projects, namely as member and Human Resources Leader of the junior initiative "Scientific Junior Value" between 2018 and 2020, at the University of Aveiro, and has volunteered in non-profit organizations, such as Banco Alimentar Contra a Fome and Helpo.
