Rodrigo Gonçalves currently holds a Full Professor with Tenure position at the Civil Engineering Department, NOVA University, Lisbon, Portugal. His scientific activity has been focused on (i) the computational analysis and modelling of steel and steel-concrete structures, (ii) structural stability, (iii) thin-walled structures, (iv) generalized beam theory and (v) beam finite elements for large displacements and finite rotations. He is an integrated member of the CERIS research centre, graded "excellent" by the Portuguese Foundation for Science & Technology, the chair of Task Group 02 (stability of steel members) of the Structural Stability Research Council (USA), and a member of several national and international groups in the field of structural engineering and stability, namely (i) CEN/TC 250/SC 3/WG 22 (EN 1993-1-14 - Design assisted by FEM) and CEN/TC 250/SC 3/WG3 (Evolution of EN 1993-1-3 - Cold-formed members), of the European Committee for Normalization, and (ii) Sub-commissions 3 (Eurocode 3, steel structures) and 4 (Eurocode 4, steel-concrete composite structures) of the Portuguese Technical Commission for Normalisation. He is an editorial board member in several international scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science, most notably "Thin-Walled Structures", and is listed in the top 2% world ranking science-wide author database of standardized citation indicators. He has received several national and international distinctions, such as (i) the Ferry Borges 2013 award for the best paper in Structural Engineering, and three honorable mentions, awarded by the Portuguese Association of Structural Engineering and the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering, (ii) the McGuire Medal for Junior Researchers 2017, awarded by the Structural Stability Research Council (USA), in recognition of his activity in the field of Structural Stability, and (iii) three Vinnakota awards, also from the Structural Stability Research Council. He has more than 25 years of teaching experience in graduate and postgraduate courses, in four higher education Portuguese institutions, and has been in charge of over 10 different curricular units in Civil Engineering courses. Currently, he is the Coordinator of the NOVA hub of the CERIS research centre and the PhD program in Civil Engineering at NOVA FCT and was, in the past, the coordinator of the integrated Master in Civil Engineering at NOVA FCT.
