Piero Calosi completed his academic education in Biology at the University of Florence (Italy), graduating for his Ph.D. in 2004. Between 2005-2012 he completed three successive Postdoctoral fellowships in population genetics at Royal Holloway (UK), macrophysiology and ecophysiological implications of ocean acidification at the University of Plymouth (UK). In 2012 he became Assistant Professor in Marine Evolutionary Physiology at the University of Plymouth. In 2014 he moved to the University of Quebec in Rimouski (Canada) where he is now Professor of Marine Biology. He focuses on the investigation of trans- and within-generational physiological plasticity in marine invertebrates within the context of combined global change drivers. He is interested in developping a multilayer-multiomics approach in evolutionary physiology, in order to elucidate how physiological systems work, have evolved, and whether they can further adapt to ongoing rapid environmental changes. He has a solid and broad national and international network of collaborators. He has trained a large number of high qualified personnelle (HQP - from honours BSc to Postdocs), > 50 in the past 6 years, who have moved forward on their academic careers and found permanent position in Academia, research and Management Governmental Agencies and NGOs. In his research group 79% of HQP belong to underrepresented groups in science. He has published to date > 85 manuscripts in international peer-reviewed journals (incl. Nature Communications, Global Change Biology, Fish and Fisheries, Scientific Reports, Philosophical Transaction of the Royal Society B, Annual Review of Marine Science, Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics). He has attracted >4346, and has a h-index of 35 and a i10-index of 63. Some of his publications were used in the IPCC 2014 Chapter 6 Ocean Systems, whilst a number of works were the subject of TV and radio interviews and articles (e.g. in The New York Times, The Guardian, L.A. Times and New Scientist, BBC, CBC). He has given 35 Invited Talks and Key Notes, 2 public webinar and 1 public talk on the impact of global change drivers on the physiology, development and life history of marine invertebrates. He serves in a number of research committee (including for example the North American Hub for Ocean Acidification, the GOA-ON Biological working group and the MEOPAR Canada Ocean Acidification working group). He has obtained a total of $ 4.5 million CAD in research funding in the past 6 years. He has edited two special issues in Evolutionary Applications and in the Philosophical Transaction of the Royal Society B, and he is Associate Editor for the journal Physiological and Biochemical Zoology. He has organised/participated to 12 scientific mission: incl. in Svalbard, the Canadian Arctic, Panama, Italian CO2 vents.
